The Europe is still trying to recover from the tragedy of November 2015 in Paris, when comes this new attack by ISIS in Brussel, Belgium causing 34 people dead and over 200 injured. Like the attack in Paris, this attack was also well planned and coordinated. The terrorists selected international airport at Brussels and a metro station. Both places where thousands of people would be passing through and making them good targets for these terrorists to inflict maximum casualties. What is amazing about this particular attack is the incompetency of Belgium law enforcement. That is two of the terrorists had long and violent criminal records and have served jail time for few years, but yet they were not under surveillance given the fact many of the terrorists who launched their attack on Paris came from Belgium.
It is a well-known fact among the law enforcement in Belgium that over 500 people have left Belgium to travel to Syria, this number represents the highest per capita in any European country. So far about 127 of these individuals have returned to Belgium. The Belgian law enforcement authorities should have immediately started surveillance on these individuals after the Paris attack, but yet they failed to do so and the result is loss of lives of many innocent people and chaos in Brussel.
It has become obvious that ISIS is a formidable force and must be dealt with immediately and seriously. ISIS does not distinguish between the civilians and military personnel. In fact the reason they attack the members of the public is that it is a much easier target and the impact would be much greater. One of ISIS is hidden agenda it to create a rift between the Moslem communities in Europe and the citizens of these nations to the point that the governments start passing laws to curb and limit Moslem communities activities in these countries to the point of discrimination at which ISIS could use these laws and alienation of the Moslem communities as propaganda for more effective recruitment. It is hoped that the Europeans do not fall into this trap and continue to have the Moslem communities to enjoy their freedom as much as before.
It is important for the Moslem communities to show their full support to the public and offer their sincere sympathy for senseless and barbaric killings of the innocent people.
What the Moslem communities in the European countries should do to soundly rise up in support of the government and the country in which they reside and unequivocally denounce any and all violent attacks by any Islamic group against any civilians. Undoubtedly, given the recent successes of ISIS in their attacks in European capitals, encourage and bolden them to launch more attacks and cause more death and mayhem. The European law enforcement and intelligence agencies must be ready to act immediately so to prevent any further attacks.
