By now we have seen how President Trump run’s America’s foreign policies. He first says and does something and later on he says and acts opposite of what he said before and what he did before.
An example is the trade war with China and for weeks during campaign promising to fight with China over trade and kept stating how China is taking advantage of USA. Then he became president and the first foreign visitor was President XI of China and then suddenly President of China became a friend and there was never any raw deal between China and USA.
Months later, President Trump started with his Tariffs against China and boycotting the Chinese electronics company. President Trump’s statements were not erased from the media, when he stated that USA has to help Chinese with unemployment, so creating jobs in China for ZTE which is a Chinese electronics company. During his campaign creating jobs in the USA was his major goal, then what happened, how did China become a priority?
Then he made a big to do with having a face to face meeting with President of North Korea, Kim Jon. Media went crazy, his supporters start yelling “Nobel, Nobel, Nobel”, a commemorative coin was minted and the world got excited. Then his wise national security advisor, John Bolton, made a stupid comment that they like North Korea to be like Libya. We all know what happened to Libya after Kaddafi did away with his nuclear plan. He ended dead with his body found in a ditch.
Later on, Mr. Vice President, made some derogatory statements about President Kim Jon, causing some response from North Korea and President Trump announced meeting is off. Some wiser people in his administration along with President Moon of South Korea tried and succeeded to bring the Parties together and President Trump announcing the meeting is on again. One could argue that the reason for President Trump changing his mind was that the Commemorative coin was being sold at a discount once the announcement was made that the meeting is cancelled. Also the risk of not being nominated and receiving Nobel Peace Prize which President Trump so very much like to get.
There are other instances where Mr. Trump back paddled from his previous statements and policies. What happened to the Wall? What happened to Mexico paying for it? It seems the issue of building the wall and Mexico paying for it is buried.
Can America afford to have President Trump to manage her foreign policies? Reasonable minds would unanimously say “Hell No.”. Mr. Trump has managed within 17 months of his presidency, alienate our closest allies, cancel one of the most important international agreement, Iran’s nuclear deal, pull the USA out of Paris Environmental Agreement, pull the USA out of Pacific Partnership Treaty, and in an attempt to dismantle the NFTA treaty.
