Well, we just witnessed the last State of the Union Speech of President Barack Obama. This speech was somewhat different from his previous speeches and contained much of lecture and enlightening the US citizen as well as lecturing the Congress on being more cooperative, less partisan, and stubborn.
President very briefly and rapidly went through the list of some of the policies/programs that he would like to implement before his term is over. His presentation of his agenda was so fast that did not give much time to the Republican Congress members to show any reaction or been shown on the TV with any facial reactions.
President then concentrated on some of his achievements, but did not relish on them. At one point he became very humble and took blame for not being too effective of president in bringing the two parties together. He promised to do better in his last year of presidency. He also asked the members of the Congress and the population at large to help him in that effort.
He finished his speech with some quotation from Dr. Martin Luther King and was very philosophical about what he said and ended his speech on a high note with much encouragement and hope for the country.
Overall it was a well-balanced and quite impressive speech. Well done, Mr. President.
The surprise came last when Governor of South Carolina, Niki Haley delivered the Republican’s response to the President’s State of the Union Speech.
Although her speech included some Obama bashing, but she surprisingly blamed the Republicans for breakdown in Washington too and indirectly attached the Republican Front Runner, Mr. Donald Trump.
Governor Haley’s speech was indeed totally different from Republican’s rebuttal of the past speeches and included much humility and lecturing the Republicans on becoming more of inclusive and cooperative party than the one that Mr. Trump’s rants and boulster, of course she did not name Mr. Trump by name, but it was quite clear that she was referring to Mr. Trump and others like him who are driving a wedge between the Americans and inciting discrimination and divisions.
Indeed job well done Governor Haley.
