After so many years, it looks that finally the nuclear issue with Iran is coming to an end. The tentative agreement that was reached between Iran and Five plus One nations in Switzerland is a major foreign policy achievements for all parties involved.
Of course much details need to be published about this tentative agreement, but from what has already been published, it looks like win-win situation for all. Iran continues with her nuclear power activities, the western countries shall have a very intrusive inspection in all of Iran’s nuclear facilities to ensure the enrichment of the uranium does not exceed the level that could be used for manufacturing nuclear weapons.
Iran will be restricted for the next ten years from any enrichment beyond what has been agreed to and as stated international inspectors will have access to inspect any and all nuclear facilities in Iran so to effectively monitor the enrichment process.
The United States shall remove some of the sanctions, not all that have been imposed against Iran. The reasons for not lifting all sanctions is that these sanctions were imposed at different time for different purposes such as sanctions for supporting terrorism, human rights violation, and nuclear proliferation.
One must note that Iran is a signatory to the non-proliferation treaty, so one wonders why all these fuss about Iran’s nuclear program, in particular when all of the US intelligence agencies (25 in all) have advised the US Congress that Iran did not and does not have any nuclear weapon plan.

Further, the Israeli’s intelligence, Mossad, has also stated to this fact as recently as early March 2015, before Mr. Netanyahu’s speech to the US Congress.
In any event, it is still good news that Iran and the other countries have reached to an agreement curbing Iran’s nuclear activities. Of course, not everyone is happy about this agreement, in particular, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who tried everything in his power to sabotage the negotiation. Of course, one must not forget certain Republicans in the Congress who were working as hard as Mr. Netanyahu to destroy the negotiation. At the end the cooler head prevailed and the negotiation continued which resulted to today’s announcement of tentative agreement.
The Iranians are naturally very pleased with this agreement, as they would see much improvements in their economy once the some of the debilitating sanctions have been removed. The US companies will gain from the removal of the sanctions as they could have access to the Iranian market which badly needs trade with the USA. Of course, the other countries who imposed sanctions against Iran will benefit too as they would also be able to conduct trade with Iran.
The Obama administration could take credit for this milestone achievement in foreign policy, once the agreement is officially signed by all parties in June 2015. Now that the Iran’s nuclear issue is resolved, perhaps the attention could be focused on the Palestinians issue. Also bringing peace and stability in Libya, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, and effectively addressing the problems with the fanatical groups such as ISIS, al Shaabab, Boko Haram.
