It is extremely disappointing and amazing that the Republican leadership and politicians are all sitting quiet or supporting President Donald Trump’s outrageous conducts.
What President Trump is doing is outside of partisanship, but had a direct and major negative impact on the USA. The Congress first and foremost duty is to uphold the Constitution and the rule of law and to protect the United States of America. But the Congress, in particular, the Republicans have forgotten these important rules and duties.
The Republican politicians are ignoring their allegiance to the constitution and the country, but instead following the President Trump’s actions. Those Republicans who are not supporting President Trump, but they are not openly making any statements or showing their oppositions. The only Republican politicians who have made opposing statements are Senator McCain, who is recovering from brain cancer and is not in the Washington DC, Senator Flake, who has already announced that he would not run for his seat and has nothing to lose by opposing President Trump.
All other Republican politicians are either quietly or openly supporting Donald Trump’s actions.
President Trump’s actions that need full resistance:
President Trump travels to Europe for the NATO summit, he attacks Chancellor Angela Merkle. Then he openly criticizes Prime Minister of England, Teresa May. Adding insult to injury, then he refers to the European Union as United States enemy. He then meets with Queen Elizabeth and does not follow any protocols. Even if one believes that Queen Elizabeth should not be put on a pedestal, human decency and etiquette mandate that President Trump pay respect by not walking ahead of her when he was being honored by the honor guard. The videotape clearly shows that he is walking ahead of Queen Elizabeth and violating just the simple rule of being polite and respectful to his host.
President Trump then travels to Helsinki, Finland to meet with President Vladimir Putin of Russia. He had two hours of private meeting with President Putin, without any officials from either side being present, except for the interpreters. President Trump then holds a press conference along with President Putin, he not only does not disclose the topics of the conversation in their private meeting, but instead start attacking the US intelligence agencies, FBI, and law enforcement in defence of President Putin as related to the Russian tampering with 2016 election. It is unheard of that the President of United States while having international press conference throwing all of US Intelligence and law enforcement agencies under the bus. Many politicians and non-politicians accused President Trump’s actions as nothing but treason.
President Trump, then comes back to the United States and feels the heat and as usual, he started walking back and make an idiotic statement that he did not mean what he said and he meant would not rather than would as referring to Vladimir Putin’s interference in 2016 election.
What is ironic is the fact that a US reporter asked President Putin whether he wanted President Trump to become President and if he used his influence in that direction and President Putin responded “Yes, I did. Yes, I did.” He in front of the world admitted in his effort to tamper with 2016 US elections. Of course, he came up with the excuse that President Trump wanted for the USA to have a closer and peaceful relationship with Russia. That may be true, but that does not mean President Putin should openly or secretly tamper with the US election.
President Trump announces his sanctions against Canada, Mexico, China, and EU without ever thinking the ramification of his actions for the United States. The Chinese government has already threatened with massive trade retaliation against the United States. Canada, one of the closest US allies has also announced trade retaliation against the US. The EU has warned the United States to be aware that they will retaliate in kind. In fact, EU just made a substantial trade deal with Japan. That means EU and China are taking over in world trade and the US is being left alone. Who wants to do business with America, when the country is being run by such a bitter, irrational and mentally unstable president.
How can one truly trust America again? United States reneged on Iran’s nuclear deal, the agreement that was heavily negotiated by US, European, Chinese, and Russian governments. That treaty secured the region from any hostilities and the real winner was the United States. But President Trump who very much likes to act as a tough guy could not sit quiet and had to make some noises.
In fact, President Trump very much yearns to be in front of cameras and constantly in the news. The Republican leadership, as well as members of the Congress, have truly abandoned their duties. Some are very afraid of Trump and do not dare to stand against him and the others are siding with Trump so to get some benefits such as campaign support, etc.
Abdication of their duties is nothing short of treason, in particular, if they receive benefits from their inactions and must be charged accordingly and brought to justice as well as president Trump whose number one agenda is to enrich himself and his immediate family at the expense of the Americans.
