We have all heard that for every action there is a reaction. This is very fitting in these days as far as the White House is concerned.
Mr. George W. Bush, a son of former President George H. Bush has been a “C” student at Yale University and constant failure in his business endeavors which included Oil as well as Baseball. He finally stroked gold with help of friends such as Kenneth Lay, CEO of Enron and advice of Karl Rove and became the Governor of State of Texas, then with help of his brother, Governor Jeb Bush of Florida and Kathleen Harris Secretary of State of Florida, as well as five (5) Justices of the Supreme Court of the United Stated he finally became the President of the United States.
His success and rise in his political life has been at the expense of our country.
Downfall No. 1;
During the 2000 election and re-counting of the ballots and the legal battle between Al Gore and Bush, the United States became the laughing stock of the rest of the world.
A country that prides herself on free election, democracy and is constantly attempts (allegedly) to export these values was mired in scandal of election.
Intervention of the United States Supreme Court and its decision to basically award the presidency to Mr. Bush caused loss of respect for the highest court of the land. Even Chief Justice Reinquest, during one of his speech at a gathering made comments that he hoped that the Supreme Court would never have to make such decision again. Even he realized the mistake made by the Supreme Court in interfering in the voting process and electing the president for the country.
What the Supreme Court did wrong was to interfere in a local election matter which Supreme Court of Florida had already made its ruling and ordered recounting of ballots of the counties in dispute.
Add to this downfall the fact that the leaders of many countries (most of Europe, Asia, South America, and Africa) were rooting for Al Gore to become President, as he is well respected in the world community and is considered person of intellect unlike Mr. George Bush.
Mr. Bush became president and during his first few month of his presidency, he became an irrelevant president as all the focus was on his Vice-President, Mr. Dick Cheney. In fact Mr. Cheney was by far more in the news than the President. The rumor started that he is in fact the president and is running the country.
Downfall No. 2;
And then came September 11, 2001 which with all its horror, and destruction saved the presidency of Mr. Bush.
The White House team using this opportunity hid the Vice-President in an undisclosed location making the excuse of protecting the continuity of the government in case of another terrorist attack.
Overnight, Mr. Bush became one of the most admired presidents in the history of the United States. His popularity and approval rating skyrocketed and became second to none.
To this date there has not been any thorough investigation as to why and how this could happen. Yes, Congress investigated the event and even prepared a report of which 28 pages were deleted by the White House under the banner of National Security. These deleted pages dealt with the relationship of the Saudi Arabia and the U.S. and the role of Saudi Arabia in 9/11 disaster.
The White House did everything possible to stone wall the committee and made their job very difficult and did not provide many of the documents requested.
The attack was the biggest and the most horrific in the history of the United States. America was wounded and lost one of its symbols of capitalism and financial success, the Twin Towers, two of the tallest buildings in the world. The Skyline of New York City was changed for good.
Now thanks to the relatives of the victims of 9-11 there is another committee investigating the events before 9-11 and what went wrong. Unfortunately, this committee is also experiencing the White House stonewalling and resistance for providing documents as well as restricting access to witnesses.
Also the committee, although made of well-respected Republican and Democrats, but are not asking the right and tough questions. Each member is allotted certain number of minutes to ask questions and some of the answers are purposely longwinded and distractive, perhaps to make the time pass by quicker.
President Clinton had an affair with Monica Lewinsky, it cost the Tax Payers Millions of dollars and couple of years of investigation and ultimate impeachment. Now 3,000 people are killed, two of the tallest buildings in the world along with seven other buildings are destroyed, US economy took a dive, and American way life is changed forever, we only have a superficial and shallow investigation and even these miniscule investigation has been resisted by the White House. Why?
The strange thing is that no one has been demoted or fired for dropping the ball over 9-11, except Bill Mahr the host of “not politically correct show” on ABC when he made a comment as to bravery of US soldiers staying tens of miles away and bombing Afghanistan.
The ONLY person apologizing for any mistake of judgment has been Richard Clark, head terrorism, in the Bush Administration.
No evasive action was taken to intercept the high jacked planes, which incidentally, is contrary to the NORAD rule which requires within 4 minutes of any commercial plane being high jacked within the Skies of United States, a fighter plane from the nearest airfield to take off and intercept and bring down the plane.
It took 120 minutes, before the first fighter plane taking off, way after the Twin Towers collapse, Pentagon damaged, and the Plane crash in Pennsylvania. Yet no one has been punished in any shape or form.
The Administration had warning of Osama Bin Ladin’s possible attack on US soil, but yet no action was taken and no one has been punished for lack of action and mistake.
Downfall No.3;
Within hours of falling of the Twin Towers in New York City, it was determined that Osama Bin Ladin and Al Qaeda were responsible. Wow! That fast?!
President Bush became very eager to attack Afghanistan without any resort to diplomacy. The Taliban asked for US Government to show proof that Osama Bin Ladin was behind the attack and they would handover Osama. President Bush refused and then attacked Afghanistan. Taliban along with Osama Bin Ladin and his gang fled and hid in the mountains, somewhere between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Although the attack was very quick and successful and people all over the world were delighted that the barbaric regime of Taliban were terminated, but Osama and his lieutenants as well as the leaders of Taliban escaped. Afghanistan has turned into multi mini kingdom whereby the Warlords have taken up the role of the king and each has his own military force and controls a certain region of the country. Meanwhile thanks to mishandling of Afghanistan, its production of drug has increased by 70% to that of pre-attack. Well not only we did not capture Osama and his colleagues, but we made Afghanistan as the capital drug manufacturing in the world.
President Hamid Karzai does not have much control and his presidency is limited to Capital city of Kabul and immediate surroundings. In fact he is nothing short of a US puppet. His government has barely control over the Capital city of Kabul. There is no security and social or political system to talk about, and economic progress is almost non-existence.
The downfall is that US a superpower was not able to arrest the leaders of Al Qaeda and more importantly Osama Bin Ladin and in the process left Afghanistan in a shamble and ruins and cause the drug manufacturing become number of one product for Afghanistan.
Downfall No. 4;
Enron suddenly collapsed. In the process thousands of its employees literally lost everything which included; jobs, retirement plan, 401K, houses, cars, etc. In the process thousands of investors lost their investment. The stock market lost its respect and credibility, as investors started pulling out of stock market and making other types of investment, including real estate, which is why the real estate market being so hot for the past year or so. The loss of confidence in the stock market has cost investors billions of dollars.
What is Enron? It is a multi facet company engaged in the energy market. Its CEO, Kenneth Lay, who is a very close friend of Mr. George W. Bush. Mr. Lay has personally donated over $150,000 to Mr. George W. Bush 2000 election campaign, and had Enron to donate over $250,000.00 to Mr. George Bush campaign. He also raised over $750,000.00 for Mr. Bush 2000 campaign. He even allowed Enron’s private jet to be used by Mr. Bush during his presidential campaign free of charge.
Martha Stewart who tried to save $51,000.00 by trying to sell her stock before FDA’s decision about refusing Imclone’s application for approval of a drug to be published, was charged for insider trading and obstruction of justice. She was tried and convicted and is currently waiting for sentencing, and all took place in less than a year, while Mr. Lay is walking free and has not be charged with any wrongdoing conduct.
WorldCom-MCI followed soon and it was revealed that many large corporations have been cooking up their books to show their financial situation healthier that they actually were.
Downfall No. 5;
The White House decides to attack Iraq and remove Saddam Hussein from power despite the objections from the United Nations and many European, Asian, African, and American Countries.
The campaign of misinformation started and the propagandists; Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, Collin Powell, and Condaleeza Rice began their task of spreading false information to the press, the American People and the United Nations.
We were constantly told that Saddam has weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and is about to attack the US and the European Countries. Baring in mind that for the past twelve years Iraq has been under constant surveillance by satellite as well as frequent flights by the US and British Air Force fighter jets as well as the fact that in 1991 the allied forces destroyed most of Iraq’s military might and the subsequent weapon inspection which lasted on and off till 1998 got rid of any and all WMD or plans for development of such weapons.
But yet the White House was insisting that they have solid proof that Saddam has WMD. And when the international weapon inspector team kept asking US for proof, they received no response or cooperation from the White House nor from the State Department. The reason for this refusal is apparent, it is because there was no WMD for USA to provide information for.
So far over 700 of allied forces have been killed which include over 600 US personnel. Thousands of US soldiers are wounded.
Iraq is attacked and the country is turned literally into rubble, the national treasures such as historical artifacts, rare books are looted or destroyed, government buildings, infrastructures destroyed and in the process thousands of Iraqis killed, months of search throughout Iraq, still no sign of WMD.
Although the actual attack and downfall of Saddam was quick, but the aftermath lingers on and in fact is getting worse.
So far over 700 of allied forces have been killed which include over 600 US personnel. Thousands of US soldiers are wounded.
As the time passes, Iraqis start hating US more and more Iraqis are joining the resistance and fighting the US forces.
We have lost over 600 personnel, thousands have been injured, almost 150 billion dollars spent on this invasion, loss of international respect and subsequent loss of political influence as well as jeopardizing the Americans lives…
The sympathy and respect that US gained because of 9/11 is lost and in fact other countries have started to hate US especially the Moslem countries who see invasion of Iraq an attack on Islam and killing of Iraqis as murdering Moslems.
What has US gained from the invasion of Iraq? The short answer is not much if any.
We have lost over 600 personnel, thousands have been injured, almost 150 billion dollars spent on this invasion, loss of international respect and subsequent loss of political influence as well as jeopardizing the Americans lives with possible terror attack and increasing the chance of terrorist attack on US soil and abroad.
In the process, the Iraqis who hated Saddam are beginning to talk of him fondly, because what they have seen and got so far has been misery, devastation, and insecurity. There seems to be no hope of Iraq becoming a stable country any time soon with any respected government in charge.
The two tax cuts, not only has not helped, but depleted the treasury and all the hopes of reducing the National Debt was lost thanks to Mr. Bush’s two tax cuts which incidentally did not help the lower and middle income families.
Domestically, US has lost about 3 million jobs since Mr. Bush has become the President. Consumer confidence has been declining as much as the prime rate has been decreasing.
The two tax cuts, not only has not helped, but depleted the treasury and all the hopes of reducing the National Debt was lost thanks to Mr. Bush’s two tax cuts which incidentally did not help the lower and middle income families. That cannot be said about the higher income and well to do class. They were the main recipient and beneficiary of these two tax cuts.
In the Western hemisphere, US tried to remove Hugo Chavez, the President of Venezuela with a coup, which backfired.
US government also removed or kidnapped president Aresteed of Haiti and installed a new government which make of bunch of gangsters and murderers, and in the process we managed to alienate many of the South American and Caribbean countries.
ll these wrongdoings, tragedies, mistakes, misrepresentation, deception, but no one has demanded any investigation of the President and his possible impeachment and removal from the office.
Practically every week or so there is a new revelation as to inner workings of the White House and how they have managed to bungle up Iraq’s war, the allegation of WMD or 9/11 tragedy.
Ronald Reagan was know as Teflon President as no allegation of wrong doing could stick to him, thanks to his team. Mr. George W. Bush parentally posses a new and improved version of Teflon as nothing could stick to him too. All these wrongdoings, tragedies, mistakes, misrepresentation, deception, but no one has demanded any investigation of the President and his possible impeachment and removal from the office.
In the past four years, US has taken a sharp dive from an economic success and international popularity to economic chaos, international resentment.
