How often have you heard this phrase “I am not a scientist” when climate change is discussed? The politician makes this statement and then continues to challenge the issue of climate change. The proper response to these people make this statement that “I am not a scientist” is that if you are not scientist, then shut up and listen to the twelve thousands environmental scientists throughout the world unanimously have declared that the earth is getting warmer and it is because of human activities.
When these scientists who have devoted all their lives in studying the environment and the causes for global warming warn us about the climate change, then we have to listen to them. These scientists have no interests in lying, but the politicians who are receiving campaign funds do have interests in lying about the climate change.
Besides let’s for second forget about any scientists and what they say or believe about the climate change, anyone who has been around for the past 20 years or so could see with his/her own eyes the changes in the environment. The Himalia’s ice cap is melted away and there are plenty of pictures before and after to prove that.
The icebergs in the North Pole have been melting away and in some places one can actually see the soil. The polar bears are having less ice land to walk on and live and are endanger of extinction.
In some parts of Central Asia the sea level has increased displacing over 500,000 people who were living by the sea as they have lost their lands, homes, crops, and herds.
We do not have to go far, in the United States, the hurricanes have become more sever, and the storms in the East have become much stronger and more vicious. In the West the climate has become dryer causing drought and as the result more wild fires and shortage of water which make the battling the wild fires even more difficult, never mind the water shortage having major impact on agriculture industry in the West in particular in California.
The winters in the East have become colder with unpresented level of snow, while in the West the dry weather is causing havoc.
The same politicians who constantly deny the global warming are very much for national security and tougher and stronger military, while they purposely and intentionally ignore or oppose any policies that could improve the quality of air and reduce the C02 emission. They fail to understand that what national security be good for if the climate is going to destroy us all! Why do we need stronger military if the human race is going to become extinct?
Some have made the argument that the effect of climate change would create more hostilities and possible wars as the natural resources become scares and there would be mass migration of the population in the effected regions. In fact we have already witnessed some of this mass migration in Central Asia due to rise in sea level.
Nothing is more serious and causing threat against the Americans and the people around the world than the climate change. The climate changes does not differentiate between ethnicities, religions, race, income level, and nationality. It poses danger to all creatures on earth, well, all except the roaches, and the microbes, which have managed to survive any and all disasters for tens of thousands of years if not more.
Every so many years leaders of various countries get together and try to come up with come consensus and agreement as to how to curb the CO2 emission, but so far nothing concrete has taken place. However, the current Paris summit may provide some hope as leaders of 150 countries have gathered in Paris to discuss and come to agreement about reducing the emission and trying to save the planet earth.
Those who are against any new laws to reduce the CO2 and argue that it is a job killer fail to realize that any attempt in improving the environment and reducing the C02 offers great job opportunities. For example thousands of people are working in factories around the world to manufacture solar panels. This is new invention that did not exist many years ago and if it did it was very limited in application, but now use of solar panels are becoming very common. Manufacturing of filtration systems to help the factories to capture more of the harmful gases that are released in the air can only create new jobs. The invention of hybrid or electric cars have created thousands of jobs. When desktop computers were invented, that created tens of thousands of jobs along with thousands of thousands of jobs for software programmers and technicians. Yes, the advent of computers and software programs might have caused some lose their jobs and their duties were replaced by computer doing job of few by one only. But the net result has been creation of tens of thousands of jobs. The same argument could be made for battling the global warming.
It is true the new laws may cause some job losses, but it is also true that these laws create new jobs which could not only save the planet, but also provide higher income for the workers and improve the economy. It is a proven fact that battling any major issues create jobs. Given that fighting the global warming is an international effort, the job creation would be throughout the world which will bring economic prosperities for millions of people.
Over 12,000 environmental scientists throughout the world have declared that the earth is getting warmer and will destroy life as we know it. However, the anti-climate change group are relying on very few so called experts who are funded by the oil companies that claim there is no solid proof that the human activities is causing any environmental damage and more studies need to be done. I suppose they are waiting for earth to die in order to prove them wrong.
Any person who is in position of power and can do something about climate change and intentionally fails to do so, should be charged with crimes against humanity. Their failure has worldwide ramification and would result in destruction of land, homelessness, poverty and chaos as well as death of thousands of people throughout the world, it has already done so in some part of the world. Further, their failure to act now will increase death of innocent people due to more severe storms as we have already witnessed through Sandy Storm, Katrina Storm, and climate disasters. Enough with denying the presence of climate change. It is real and it is here now and in fact has been with us for last few decades.
