It is amazing and extremely pleasing to witness a sixteen (16) years old Swedish girl bring so much attention to the US politicians and leaders as well as to the rest of the world about Climate Change or as some call it Global Warming.
What the US politicians and powers to fail to realize is that climate change is not just about whether getting colder or hotter, it has major political, economic, and social ramifications.
When the climate warms up and the oceans and sea-level rise up, lands will be swollen by the seas, the people who live on those lands have to leave and relocate to the safer ground which may very well be crowding up other communities which would create conflicts. Many wars throughout the world started because people moved into someone else territories.
When global warming goes into full effect, rest assured that cities will be wiped out and millions of people throughout the affected areas will be displaced and will move to other cities or countries which will not be welcome. Right now Bangladesh has lost acres of land by the sea as it was washed away and the pheasants that were living on those lands lost their cottages and had to flee to higher grounds for safety. Wars between countries are imminent, thanks to global warming.
When people lose their livelihood and some perish due to climate change, as we have already witnessed in the United States people losing their lives in the hurricanes and floods due to heavy rain, that means loss of productivity. Loss of homes and infrastructure means economical loss. Every time we rebuild something, that is an economic loss, unless it is being rebuilt with specific improvements.
Some of the poorest countries are in danger of massive losses, such as Bangladesh and other countries that are surrounded by oceans and or seas, as the global warming at its height would wipe out those countries and create devastation that human beings have not witnessed yet.
With the advent of new technologies such as solar panel, windmills and use of oceans to generate electricity, there is no real need for fossil fuel any longer. Replacing fossil fuels with these new technologies, not only save the planet from destructions but also create many new and high paying jobs.
The advent of desktop computers, not only improved the companies’ economic conditions but also created millions of new jobs just to manufacture computers and repairing and maintenance. Corporations such as IBM, Apple, Dell, and others have hired tens of thousands of people thanks to this new technology.
Manufacturing solar panels have already proven that new jobs are created and a lot more can be created, once all the nations opt to use solar panels to get their electricity from.
Windmills are also new technologies and manufacturing and maintaining them require manpower which means new employment. These new jobs unlike coal and other fossil fuels are clean and less dangerous. There is no black long when working in a solar panel manufacturing company or windmill manufacturer. The health risk is tremendously reduced and standard of living shall increase due to these high paying jobs. Let’s not forget when the car manufacturers hired tens of thousands of people in the USA, it created a middle-class population and help the growth of the US economy.
It is ironic that we spend billions of dollars in exploration of the space looking for another planet for human habitation, which if we do find another planet to live on, it will not be anything close the earth environment and will need special tools, etc. to have so to live on, while all those resources could be used to save planet earth, the only place in the galaxy that provides all the right conditions for human beings to live on without any restrictions.
Exploration is fine, but let’s first save our planet, then go and explore other planets.
There is also a humanitarian aspect of climate change. We the human beings are supposed to be the supreme being on this planet and as such we must care for other specious on this planet. What many forget is that we are all connected. Without animals, we the human beings will not be able to live, as the source of food becomes scares, the shrubs and plants grow out of control and could become fire hazards.
Without trees, the planet becomes a dry land as it is because of the trees that other shrubs and plants grow. Trees keep the surface of the planet cool and allow other creatures and plants to grow, not to mention the fruits that we get from the trees.
Without the fish and other marines, the oceans become polluted as the marines serve as cleaning and maintaining a balance in the oceans. Some of them feed on the others so the population is controlled and oceans become a habitable environment for the sea creatures.
Further, we human beings need to look after our children, grandchildren and future generations. Failing to maintain a habitable planet for the future generation is nothing short of genocide and crime against humanity.
What is upsetting is the fact that these climate change deniers witness the climate change with their own eyes, but yet deny that there is any global warming. They deny that human beings have anything to do with global warming, even though a few decades ago there were no cars to emit so much carbon monoxide into the air. There were no planes, trains, ships and boats to pollute the air, all these are a human creation. Due to change of diet and rise in population demand for meat has increased and one of the major pollutants are the methane gas released by the cattle and is getting worse every year as forests are being mowed down to create grazing land for more cattle. South America is the best example of what is going now.
Anyone who is in a position of power who could do something about Climate change and fails to take action must be charged with a crime against humanity and suffer the consequences. We must not allow a few ignorant individuals to decide for the rest of human beings and the planet earth as a whole.
