It seems that many people are supporting what Abu Azrael who is also known as Iraq’ Rambo or Angel of Death is doing which is fighting the ISIS also known as ISIL. Although on the surface it seems he is doing a good deed fighting this barbaric and fanatical groups, but one must be careful of not falling for Abu Azrael, after all he is a Shia and is killing ISIS, because they are Sunnis who are killing many Shias mercilessly.
Abu Azrael is a commander of the Kataib al-Imam Ali, an Iraqi Shi’a militia group of the Popular Mobilization Forces that is fighting ISIL, as the name of group states this group is another religious group and if they get the upper hand, they may impose their own brand of Islam which is more in tune with Shi’a belief.
There is a say that my enemy’s enemy is my friend, that would only go so far, until the friend wins and becomes your enemy. Let’s not forget Taliban and Al Quada. US supported them to fight with the Soviet forces in Afghanistan. Once the Soviets were defeated, the Taliban and Al-Quada became the US enemy and the result was for Osama Bin Laden planning the attack on World Trade resulting in killing of over 2,850 innocent lives and hundreds being injured.
The only group that need to be fully supported is the one that is fighting ISIS/ISIL while promoting freedom and liberty to the population in particular the women. Any groups that fight ISIS/ISIL and promote their own brand of religion must be carefully examined and avoid providing any support. Kataib al-Imam Ali may not be saying much about their religious belief now, but once they get the upper hand, rest assured that they will be promoting their own brand of religion.
History is full of examples of these types of mistakes made by various governments at various times. The events in Libya resulting in overthrow and assassination of Omar Gadhafi is one of the most recent example. The west blindly supported the oppositions and not realizing what they are made of and helped to overthrow Gadhafi, the result is chaos and dissection of the country where many factions, some religious and fanatical and some moderate run parts of the country. For all practical purposes, there is no more Libya. There is no central government and the so called country is widely mismanaged and is in disarray, causing thousands of the citizens flee the country.
Syria is another recent example that one could discuss. In the name of fighting President Bashir Al Assad, the west provided helping hand to the oppositions which include many religious and radical groups that would only like to turn Syria into a religiously run country. In fact ISIS is a side effect of this unfortunate mistake.
